Installation

Download HeartBeatAgents for macOS, Windows, or Linux and get it running on your machine.

HeartBeatAgents runs entirely on your own machine: nothing about installation depends on a cloud account. Download it from https://www.heartbeatagents.com/download (opens in a new tab). It's free, no account required.

Prerequisite: Docker Desktop

Install Docker Desktop (opens in a new tab) first (free, cross-platform). HeartBeatAgents uses Docker to run the local containers that isolate each agent's execution environment.

Choose your installer

macOS

Requires macOS 12 Monterey or later. Available for both Apple Silicon (arm64) and Intel (x64):

  • .dmg native installer
  • .zip archive

Windows

Requires Windows 10 or later:

  • .exe installer

Linux

Supports Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Fedora 36+, or equivalent, in both x64 and arm64:

  • .deb package (Debian/Ubuntu)
  • .AppImage (any distro)
  • Docker image, for a fully containerized self-hosted deployment

Install

Download the installer for your platform and run it. The installer handles the rest automatically: no manual configuration needed.

Every download ships with a SHA-256 checksum so you can verify integrity before running it. Docker images are signed with cosign via GitHub OIDC, so a self-hosted deployment can verify provenance the same way.

HeartBeatAgents is free to use with your own API keys, or completely free end-to-end if you run models locally via Ollama.

Uninstalling

  • macOS: drag HeartBeatAgents.app from Applications to the Trash. Configuration and data live in ~/.heartbeatagents/; delete that directory too if you want to remove everything.
  • Windows: Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a program → HeartBeatAgents → Uninstall, or winget uninstall HeartBeatAgents from an elevated PowerShell.
  • Linux (.deb): sudo apt remove heartbeat-agents-desktop, or sudo apt purge heartbeat-agents-desktop to also remove configuration.
  • Linux (.rpm): sudo dnf remove heartbeat-agents-desktop (or yum on older distros).
  • Self-hosted / headless: hba uninstall, or manually: cd ~/.heartbeatagents && docker compose down -v && cd ~ && rm -rf ~/.heartbeatagents.
