# System Requirements

Supported operating systems and architectures for running HeartBeatAgents locally.

HeartBeatAgents is local-first: it runs on your own hardware, so what you install has to match your platform and architecture.

## Supported platforms

| Platform | Minimum version | Architectures |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | 12 Monterey or later | Apple Silicon (arm64), Intel (x64) |
| Windows | Windows 10 or later | x64 |
| Linux | Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Fedora 36+, or equivalent | x64, arm64 |

## Docker

[Docker Desktop](https://www.docker.com/products/docker-desktop/) (or an equivalent Docker Engine on Linux) is required regardless of platform: it's what isolates each agent's execution environment from the rest of your machine. Install it before running the HeartBeatAgents installer.

## Resource guidance

Actual resource needs scale with how many agents you run concurrently and whether you're calling out to hosted LLM providers or running models locally via Ollama. Running models locally is more resource-intensive (CPU/GPU and RAM) than calling a hosted provider's API, since inference happens on your own machine.

Once your machine meets these requirements, head to [Installation](/en/docs/getting-started/installation) if you haven't already, then [First Setup](/en/docs/getting-started/first-setup).
